Flexplate ?'s

So on my new engine my flex plate is a bit wobbly . 1 reason is unlike most converters mine has a full circle mounting surface so the wheights get in the way of it bolting truly flat. I fixed that with washers to some extent. After i did that i fired the engine up and went down to look at it while it was running and it still a bit wobbly. It actully hit the strater at higher rpms and you could hear it. It wasnt very loud but just enough to leave some marks on it. At what point is it better to replace it. i have never had an issue like this. i do have a like new prw high inertia flax plate but my rotating assembly is already balanced to the stocker unit. Can i go to the heavier one with no issues ? I have spun it to 4k and did not feel any vibration from the motor but i know just becasue i dont feel it it cant be there. Any input is appreciated.

The time to replace it was before you put the washers on it. You already have a self induced balance issue. I assure you, if you have a problem with your flexplate in it's current form, it will not be minor.

Your problem sounds like a chevy converter on an olds flexplate, a common problem. I don't like the idea of shimming or using washers. It's not right until you make it right.

The balance issue might be a problem that you can get away with,If you decide to change, not perfect, If I'm understanding your question correctly.

The converter worked on the prw flexplate. I guess I'll have to get a stocker unit to match the stocker one I have now. Or get a little more info. I just don't wanna hurt this new motor. I haven't ran a stocker flex plate in years.

I also might add i did not know this flex plate was bent when i installed it. I actually may have messed it up by bolting it up with out knowing the wheights messed with it.

I thought you said you added washers when the weights interfered with your torque converter? I was just saying at that point, it would have been a red flag. I would think your having issues with your starter also? I'm not giving you a hard time, just saying.

amazingly no starter issues. I just added weights this weekend to try to fix the issue of turning the flex plate into a potato chip . It's still a little wobbly.

seems to me like either a proper torque converter or moving the balance weights to the fwd side of the flexplate is in order. Preferably the former.

I used some washers. Not wheights lol I just saw that on my post. It's much better but I'm gonna drop the trans and swap the flex plate no biggie. I have had that trans in and out in less than 5 hours .
