Fan shroud problem

I need some help with a fan shroud problem that has been driving me crazy. I have a 1970 Cutlass Supreme with a 350 and the fan shroud has about 2" of space at the top between shroud/ fan. Near the bottom at about the 5 o'clock positon and 7 o'clock the fan rubs the shroud. The engine mounts are new. I have had the shroud on and off 3 times and I can't figure out why it isn't centered in the shroud opening (see attached pictures).
I am hoping the veterans on here will be able to help me, so fire away and give me some ideas.

Thanks,
Ross

Were you sold the correct motor mounts before? Was the car involved in any major wreck? Were the radiator support - frame mounts replaced? Just a couple things at the top of my mind...

And have you changed the fan. I learned a few years ago that some years used fan blades that are 19" across and other years use ones that are 19 1/2" across. Don't ask me how long it took to figure that one out John

The fan looks right if it was spaced correctly? There should be about a finger width beween the fan tip and the shroud. On my car the back of the fan blade is even with the projection on the back of the shroud on top and projects that much back from the edge on the remainder, about 3/4". I would check what Rob said, could have gotten the radiator core support bushings installed wrong, accident, motor mounts. Is the engine tilted up from the back? Transmission mount okay?

Based on the post and consulting with a friend, I believe that the fan is the wrong diameter (19-1/2") and I need a 19" fan blade.

So, I am in need of a 19" fan blade if anyone has one please let me know.

Thanks for all the help,
Ross

According to the parts catalog it should be a 6 blade 19-1/2" fan with AC or heavy duty cooling. It doesn't list a 6 blade 19" fan. The other would be a 19" 4 blade fan. The shroud opening should be about an inch to an inch and a half bigger than the fan diameter going by my '71.
The blade isn't centered vertically in the shroud opening now and the blade tip has to be way past the shroud on the bottom going by the space on top?
Is a 1/4" more clearance really going to help anything?

Bluevista,
Thanks for the reply, that is some good information.

Is the parts catalog for a 1970?

Just to give some more information for everyone:
All of the mounts have been replaced (engine and trans)
The body and core support mounts have not been replaced.
No accident damage

If the 19-1/2" fan is right, then I should be able to make it work........
