Fan Shroud

How importnat is the fan shroud? Mine has been missing ever since I have owned the car. I dont think i have heatin issues (the idiot light does not come on). Is this something i should seek out and replace? I drive a 69 Delta. Is the shroud unique to the car or the motor?

Not every car made had a fan shroud. How would you know if it's missing if it never had one when you bought the car?

You can add a fan shroud if you want, but it's probably not needed if you don't have any problems with cooling.

I'm pretty sure your car came with one.
Down here, you pretty much need one, give your cooling system a break.
You did not say where you live.
Ditch the idiot light.

I would recommend one. The idiot light does not come on until 240* or so... If it did come with one, it was for a good reason anyway.

Does the car have air? Some cars only used fan shrouds with AC but I'm not familiar with that model, can't hurt anything to do it. I would also loose the idiot light and install a water temp gauge at the least in any case.
The first thing I do on any car I get is install gauges, idiot lights are called that for a reason but you can also be an idiot if you don't keep checking the gauges. I like to keep the idiot lights working along with the gauges.
