Experience with Jet Performance Modified Quadrajets

Does anyone have experience with Jet Modified Quadrajets? I have a mildly built 350 that currently has a Holley 600. I am thinking about going to a Qjet or Entry level EFI. The Jet Qjet I had in mind is the stage 2 linked below.

I haven't heard anything bad about them but custom is around the same price. Sean Murphy Induction is supposed to be a good one, used to work at Jet. I went with Ken at Everyday Performance, runs very nice. Even runs pretty good with filled cross overs in below freezing weather. He is a one man operation but had good turn around time.

Thanks for the response. I would like to have a well setup Q-jet that doesn't break the budget. I will look into your suggestions.

When I wanted to swap a quad on to replace my Holley I gave cliff Ruggles a call and gave him my cars info, he sent me a carb kit and a few extra oarts( rods, jets, etc) and I can not be happier with the performance.

I bought a Cliffs High Performance rebuild kit for a 7042250 I have in the garage now. I don't trust the rebuild that was done on it. I am inexperienced at but maybe it isn't as bad as I think it is.

its not hard to do, i got pre drilled air tubes so i did have to carefully pull out my old ones and press in the new ones. if you give him your cars info he'll pick out the parts for you, he can do it but hes 6 months out on rebuilding carbs right now. if you dont have his book i recommend getting it as i did a few extra mods from the book that we hadnt talked about over the phone. rebuilding/modding the carb( $110 iirc) and a 1" tapered spacer ($100, i didnt need it but after some research decided to get one) this made my engine act like a whole new animal compared to all the holley style carbs i had on it before.

Thanks for the details. I guess I could try my hand at rebuilding it myself. They were very helpful in the past when I ordered the rebuild kit I have now.

Tapered spacer- for under the carb?

Must be a negligible taper, or the bolts would not go straight-ish into their manifold holes.

Here's the thing... if you spend a bunch of money on the Jet, and it still doesn't run right, you'll be out a lot of money until you figure out how to fix it yourself.

IMO, you either do it yourself or pay a little more to send it to someone who builds it for your specific combo (Sparky, Ruggles, Dean O, Danny Ashley, etc...) and then you'll also have a tech support person you can call to work through issues as you learn.

It's tapered on the inside, basically starts out as a 4 hole at the top and blends(tapers) into an open spacer at the bottom

Deanos carbs is very well known....http://www.deanoscarbs.com/ I have three, or if you want to try and rework it yourself look up Doug Roes book online. Both are top notch.

Hood clearance is very tough, with my street dominator, 1" spacer, quad and a drop base air cleaner I have rub marks on my hood

Btw, I was not recomending you use a spacer. I just thought I should share that info, in explaining the before and after, since I didn't just do the carb

Also when you guys start building power in these bad boys and adding drag radials, slicks, etc. its a good idea to put a "tork" strap on the drivers side or the engine mount could fail, then the air cleaner will hit the hood. Ive been there done that.

Thanks for the info. I run a Performer RPM intake now, so I will keep clearance in mind. I may actually have a small spacer with th Holley 600, but I will need to verify.
