EXHAUST PROBLEM What do i do?

I took my headers off and im going back to the manifolds. This is bcaz my starter runs REAL CLOSE to the headers and it fried my starter so i really dont want to deal with that problem anymore. So i got the manifolds an now my mechanic says i need the down pipe.I have a clue about what it is but he said its gonna be hard to find.He said he will look around but I should look too. What other alternatives do i have? Could i find this part at a junkyard???? Im lost and money is a lil tight..IDK what to do

Have a muffler shop make it up.

It's just a flange fitting on one end and an expanded end on the other with a bit of a curve.

Summit and Jegs offer Pypes stainless downpipes. Parts houses offer regular pipes. It is called the front exhaust pipe. Another solution would be a mini starter; I like RobbMc best and it is the best fitting with headers,

I had to "ding" my headers some on my 455 as they almost touched the starter. (Hedman) I also wrapped the starter and selonoid with reflective heat wrap. 2 years and no problems.
Of course, I just said that.

Theres 3 pull a part http://www.pullapart.com locations in atlanta you can check their inventory and see if they have cutlasses that might have the exhaust part you need. They cannot tell you if they have it you will have to go look and remove it yourself. will cost about 1.80 per foot. The nicest junk yards around costs a dollar to go in take all the tools you might need I usually spend 3 or 4 hours at the winston-salem and charlotte locations and dont want to leave then. They only keep cars about 90 days then crush them out. South atlanta shows a 71 cutlass may want to check this out if you go.

I agree with the headers and the mini starter but the key words are money is a little tight.

I have a mini starter on mine and it cured alot of problems like heat soak, etc. It might save you money in the long haul. They sound kinda funny though, you know?

Not sure what your plan is, but it seems the cheapest thing to do would be keep the setup you had and put some kind of heat shielding around the starter.

Are you sure the heat from the headers caused the old starter to go bad? The heat shielding should help if that was the problem.

One thing that I have done and think is a reasonable cheap fix, it to get the header wrap and put on your headers, although, if they are new and something would happen it would void your warranty, but if your past that, then why not. I have also on other cars took the flexible heat shield and wrapped the starter up using metal clamps that can be easily unscrewed if need be. Autozone also carries these crossover pipes for about $30.
