Exhaust

I'm the happy owner of a 71 cutlass supreme convertible. My exhaust is in poor condition and I suspect it to cause excessive backpressure an therefore causing carb problems. I've read a lot around about carb flooding and before investigating my brand new holley, I want to fix the exhaust since I'll have to replace it anyway.
I've read several threads about exhaust selection stating that Dynomax are the best and that I should stay away from Flowmasters. The thing is I live in France and I'll have to get my parts shipped which restricts the number of dealers drasticly (I mainly order from yearone) and also compels me to make it right the first time. I don't want to pay shipping fees twice.
My cutlass has a 350 with original manifolds on, but they leak. Exhaust pipes are poorly fitted and the original crossover pipe has been cut off and welded... Here's my plan : get headers and a complete exhaust system shipped over. I'm not sure what parts would best fit together. Hooker headers + Flowmaster American Thunder...? What's the right size for exhaust, 2-1/2 or 3s?
I'm a little lost on what would be the right combination and how to make sure that I won't forget any part.
Thanks.

I have a 2-1/2 flowmaster american thunder on my 455. I like it. Slight drone noise around 40mph but I don't mind it at all. I have a few pics and videos of it if you want.

I thought I might go for the following set :

Hooker headers 3901HKR
with
Pypes Street Pro SGA10S

Not cheap though...

exhaust

I am using Flotech coated headers and dynomax mufflers. Still waiting to run it for the first time with the headers, ut love the dynomax with my manifolds.
