Smile Engine torque values

Hey again
Trying to find the torque values now that I know it’s a 70 engine not a 69
Values all over the place on line
Main bearing caps 80 Ftlbs for caps 1,2,3,4 and 120 for #5 is that correct?
Where do I find the correct values for all the parts
Thanks again Gents

The factory service manual has all of the information you will need. Most Chiltons manuals have engine torque specs and other information as well, but the original factory manual is best.

I have a factory service manual for '69 if you would like those values...can't imagine anything would have changed for '70 on engine torque specs

Should be the same for 68-76. In 77 larger head bolts were used.

Is this engine factory stock bolts or ARP's? ARP's bolts has different torque specs. Follow their instructions if you're using it.

Torque values taken from my 1969 factory service manual

*All values in lb-ft unless otherwise noted
**Values for intake, heads, rods and mains assumes all threads have been thoroughly cleaned and liberally coated in 30 weight oil

Intake--step one 15, step two 35 (follow proper sequence)
Intake baffle to block--8
Heads--80 (should be torqued in progressive steps, follow proper sequence)
Rods--42 (should be torqued in progressive steps, follow proper sequence)
Mains--#1-4-->80, #5-->120
Balancer--160 minimum
Cam sprocket--65
Oil filter adapter--35
Oil pump--35
Oil pan--5/16 bolt-->12, 1/4 bolt-->8
Rocker pivots--25
Flex plate--60
Flywheel--80
Exhaust manifold--25
Valve cover--7
Front cover--5/16 bolt-->25, 3/8-->35
Water pump to front cover--13 (I think I wimped out at 10 when I did mine)
Thermostat housing--20
Fuel pump--25
Motor mounts--50
Starter bolts--35

Let me know if I left anything out that you need.

Rick, although the service manual mentions liberally coating the threads with oil, another area is underneath the bolt head. Lubricating this area reduces friction between the bolt head and surface and gives a correct torque read. Cleanliness is critical. Good luck
