Cool Engine Install

I have a 1968 Cutlass, convertible, 350 Olds motor. I am installing the motor, can I install it with the headers on? or do I need to install the headers after installing the motor, automatic car, with AC.

Install them after, they will get in the way as the engine goes down. Its easier if you raise the car up high so you can have plenty of room to swing them up.

But once the engine is hung in the bay you might want to attach the headers before bolting the engine in place and removing the hoist. It gives you options.

nother tip is to leave the motor mounts loose on the block. Once you have the headers on and Motor Mount thru bolts installed, then tighten the motor mount to block bolts. then tighen the thru bolts
Gives you much more wiggle room

Very true, sometimes you have to lift one side or the other to get them into place with a couple of bolts.

I found it fairly easy to install the motor with the headers sitting in the engine bay. I just wired them out of the way. Much less wrangling to get them in place.

This is the way to do it - I have done this multiple times and can't even imagine trying to get the headers in after the engine is in place. Why make it harder than it needs to be?
