Engine Heads (71 Cutlass Sup Convt)

Hey, I just found out that my Cutty does not have the original heads. They are from a 70 Cutlass. Is there any reason why someone would change engine heads? All suggestions welcome.

Bolting on used heads was a common repair. It was cheaper, & quicker than sending the heads to a machine shop.

Keep in mind that lots of stuff can happen in 35+ years. The reason is often lost to the mists of time. I really wouldn't lose a lot of sleep over it. In addition to the valve job possibility, it's also possible that someone may have had the misguided impression that 70 heads would have restored the drop in compression seen in the 71 cars (they won't, by the way, since the compression drop used a bigger dish in the piston with the same 64-ish CC chambers in the heads).
