edelbrock 3711 / 403 / #6 heads

Is it somewhat common to need to have these intakes
milled somewhat for fittment?

I am test fitting my #6 heads and intake on my 403 and
found that the intake is sitting up too high. there is a
decent gap on both front and back of the block mating
surfaces and the bolt holes dont line up. I am test fitting
without gaskets so I believe that using the head gaskets
will help some but not enough.

Both the heads and block decks have been surfaced for
cleaning.

Is there a common ammount that needs to be milled?
or should I leave the measuring up to the machine shop.

Gary, I used #5 heads milled down ten thousands on my 403 project, with a Performer RPM manifold and FelPro head gaskets. Used the "turkey tray" FelPro metal intake gasket set and didn't use the rubber end pieces, just black silicone, all without any problems.....

tomngary, i'm glad you asked this question because i have a 403 & a local speed shop is selling a ready to bolt on set of #6 heads for $350(which i'm assuming is a good deal). 1970-W30 are the Performer RPM Manifold still in production and if so where can I find them?

Not a bad price for the heads, especially if the valve work has been done already! Which for that price I would think not. I am using a non rpm manifold so I would not know about the rpm style, sorry. If I can help with any other questions just let me know.

complete work to include valves, springs and everything has been done to the heads. I guess the guy who was getting them done paid for them up front then either junk or sold the car. Didn't have any need for them so he told the shop to keep them. Owner of shop says i've been the only person who has walked in asking about Olds anything since early last year. So he wants it out his shop! I will definitely have alot of questions because I never built an engine

Try to find out EXACTLY what was done to the heads. Valve sizes, milling.. ect. You will need all of that info at some point. If the shop already put in the larger 403 valve sizes then that price is a great deal. If not, plan on added cost.
