edelbrock 2198 performer intake on a 215

Hi guys,

Anyone had any experience with this intake? I'm looking for ways to make the car run a bit better and have a bit more "get up" in it. For the most part I have a stock 215 with an edelbrock 550 cfm carb.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Al

I had a 62 with that intake and an edelbrock 500. I think the carb was too big, went back to the 4gc. I got the car with the intake a cam and true duals, it felt pretty good but the cam had a flat lobe so I didn't get to feel the true potential. Over time it ended up having a stock cam and intake on it.

yeah i recognized the name, you have a nice car. if you want a little more umph id do a cam but not to big, something with low to mid range power, that intake and a smaller carb. i got my 4gc to function pretty well, a holley 390 would be nice too. also some dual exhaust built to suit the sound you like. i think a manual would completely change the feel of how much umph these cars have as the stock auto sucks. i had my 62, after i had put the engine back to stock, at a 1/8 mile strip and pulled a 9.6 if i remember correct. slowest car there but almost consistent.

Yea, I agree unfortunately the manual swap is just not in the cards, the car is mostly original and I'm going to try to keep it that way. The trans is awful, I might have to have that tuned up. I appreciate the output and congrats on the kid, mine was born a week before yours.

With the after market carb, you need to really adjust the TV rod to get the shift correct.

Also a 215 with a stick shift is night and day difference for the better. The 215 runs great with a stick.
I'm converting my '61 Cutlass to a 5 speed.

Thank for the praise. It is pretty clean. The automatic is trash. I found a '63 Cutlass sitting a field for some 25 years. A complete rust bucket, no floors, no trunk, but a 4 speed. Now I have a complete set up and found a T-5 , 5 speed.

I've got the E-brock 500 CFM (1403) on my 62. I fabricated throttle and TV rods. The adjustment was trial and error. I just kept slowly lengthening the TV rod until the trans shifted correctly.
