Different heads on the engine?

Im helping my father in law with his 58 Olds 98. It has a 371 2bbl engine which ran when he got the car. But the car will be restored and he decided to tear the engine too. Wise, because the pistons were junk, upper rings and ringlands were totally destroyed. So we got a master kit from ebay and will soon send it to the machine shop. But there were different heads on the engine, with id codes 16 and 18. One had beehive springs and the other one had normal springs. Which head is right for the engine? Is it only the springs that differs on these heads?
