Debugging - '73 Cutlass S w/403
'73 Cutlass S, 403 ci, Rochester QJ, TH350 (just rebuilt today with new torque converter).
Condition 1: rough idle at stop light , esp. after driving on hwy., then motoring through traffic, has died a couple of times. Just tuned up
Condition 2: runs approx. 200 degrees after all warmed up After driving on hwy, heats up to approx. 225 (when motoring around). Is this normal for a 403? Should I do anything?? Cooling system has been flushed and refilled, new thermostat also installed
Condition 3: Turn key on ignition switch and just clicks one (doesn’t turn over). Jiggle key (in switch), then starts fine. Prior to this have replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, condenser, coil, starter, battery). Think its just the ignition switch??
I'm assuming a points dist as you mentioned condenser replaced, but no points? What tune up specs is your engine set to? Is the engine stock, cam, pistons, compression, etc... What torque converter are you using?
If you have a bad ignition switch you may be getting low voltage or current to important items to your engine's well being. If you have a loose connection on the input to the switch it could cause all of the problems you mentioned.
