Cooling fan size

Does anyone know the correct stock diameter for the fan on a 64 F85/Cutlass with the 330? I'm contiplating installing a shroud, but the current fan is too big to allow it. The longer we drive, the hotter the engine gets. I had the radiator checked out, and although it's old, they said it has good flow. We currently have a 160 degree t'stat installed.

If you are overheating when your driving, I'll be willing to bet a shroud is not going to solve your problem. You have other issues.

IMO, I would check the fan clutch first

The fan clutch is new, at leats it was two years ago when I installed it. And less thanb 200 miles on it. But then, the coil that just took a dump was two years old too, as were the sprak plug wires that were causing a miss. The fan clutch appears to be working.

Has this engine ever had the head gaskets changed? I ran into the very same issue when I had a blown head gasket. What is your tune set to? Tuning can also cause this.

The engine was a ball of grease and rust on a shopping cart when we bought the car (someone had installed a V6 in it, with a 67 Buick radiator). I rebuilt the engine and installed new head gaskets, and had the heads checked. It doesn't have signs of combustion in the cooling system.

What is the "tune set to?" The ignition timing is set to 7 degress BTDC.

What temp does it get to? At idle and driving.

Sorry, had some other things to take care of. On a warm day (mid-80s), it will get 190-195. If you have to idle for any length of time, it will climb to 200+. We took it on a run from downtown Oroville (CA) up to the dam (about 5 miles, 700 feet change in elevation with twists) and it got up to 205. On the longer, less steep way down it came back to 195. This is with a 160 degree thermostat. I have verified the accuracy of the gauge with a temp gun. With the luck I've been having with NAPA parts lately, I'm going to try a Mr Gasket high performance t'stat.
