Chinese AC Delco

Chinese AC Delco
Bought some AC Delco R45S plugs for my Cutlass. Shocked to see they are from china.
Guess I should have expected it.
Any issues with these Chinese made plugs? Ant counterfeit concerns?

Sadly, this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Virtually nothing ACDelco sells is made in the US anymore. Here's an example of the "quality" of an ACDelco distributor cap I bought about a year ago. Never again.

Expect either Mexico or China from AC Delco. My last AC Delco alternator lasted a year, Reman from Mexico. This one has a lifetime warranty, I may need it. The Chinese AC Delco and Autolite plugs aren't quite as good as the old US made plugs. I actually prefer and run quality, Japanese made NGK spark plugs.

I use NGK's for both my cars, I bought a NAPA distributor cap last summer and ended up using fine steel wool to clean up the old Blue Streak distributor and reinstalled.

Im not going to put these Chinese ac delco’s in my car. Going to try the NGK’s that cross reference. I use them in everything else, but stupidly thought AC Delco still meant quality made goods.

Although I am not a big fan of it there actually quite a few very high quality parts made in China. It all depends on the manufacturer, in this case AC Delco, having the proper quality control to make sure they are made properly.

NGK XR5 is probably the plug you want.

Agreed, the Chinese can manufacture good products. I think they try to shave off any Penny possible. Good quality control will yield a good product.

The Japanese make really good stuff. I bought acdelco wires for my olds powered pontiac last year and the lengths where perfect and they work well. I run ngk plugs though .it all comes down to the luck of the draw. I have a cheap pro comp HEI that's been on my pontiac for 10 years no issues buti did change the module. I also ran a more expensive proform made in China for a very long time worked great. I'm now running a much more expensive davis unified ignition distributor made in the usa. They all worked well. The last one I got for free otherwise I would have never spent that kind of money on a distributor. But that's most american consumers. " That's too much I need maximum value "

Of course the chicoms CAN make a good product. They also make crap, and they also make counterfeit.
They also enslave and control their people, deny basic freedoms, and are the enemy of individual rights. And have killed unknown millions of their people.
The NBA and Gm can sell their souls for $$, doesn’t mean their crap belongs in my car.
And I realize we don’t always have a choice, but when we do I will avoid giving them business.

Unfortunately the times changed and your ideology does not work because more than half your life built around you comes from stuff from other countries. We created our own problems. We want more for less. My point is one small aspect of your life to use only us. Made goods try doing that with your entire life house , appliances etc etc you will find out it won't really be worth it and won't work out

Since you already have the plugs, you might as well try them out. Chances are you won't notice a difference unless you're using them in an "ultimate performance" application.
AC-Delco has been making most of their stuff in China or Mexico for years now. Eventually they'll improve the products enough for them to become viable replacements. In the meantime, I found a good set of NOS US-made R44S on Ebay for not a hell of a lot more than a set of their Chinesium counterparts from the parts store. Check it out.
And let's talk about cars and parts, not politics. I'm on blood pressure meds as it is without reading that kind of BS on an Oldsmobile site.

I buy points, condenser and all the other ignition parts for my 54 Olds on ebay. I make sure it is the old NOS Delco stuff like the points in the orange, white and black foil covered boxes. As mentioned above the costs is very little more than I would pay for the Chinese or Mexican made stuff.

Blame China, blame India, or blame any country you like, to no avail. The blame rightfully is laid at the feet of the American consumer, AND at the feet of American businesses.
The American consumer insists on cheap prices, and American businesses want huge profits so the businesses unbolted the machinery, stowed them on a slow ship to the nearest country that offered cheap labor.
Make no mistake, the laborers in these countries are not running the show, American companies are, and American companies are the ones dictating the quality of the products made in these countries and shipped back here to the American consumer.
Why make something of quality when so many Americans adore shopping at Walmart?

Okay, so where we're at is that OP has a few alternatives:
1) Check E-Bay for NOS R45S plugs.
2) Use the Chinese ones he already bought (my favorite -- I hate to waste things).
3) Pull out the cross reference guide and get some alternative plugs.
Anyone else?

Save those receipts and know your rights. If a product regardless of its origin fails within its warranty period, demand a replacement or demand a refund.
Money talks and American businesses listen. So see to it that they stand behind their products as it’s one of the most effective ways to keep their feet to the fire.

I have 8 AC 44S spark plugs new in box, stamping says "Made in USA" that I am planning to install this spring along with new ignition wires from Lectric Limited. Has been suggested I set gap at .030 for my 66 Cutlass 330. If new points and rotor are needed what is a good USA made brand. Any other suggestions on the install?
Thanks
