chevy 350 swap to olds350

I have a 70 chevy pickup with a bad chevy 350 engine. I have an 70 olds 350 engine I want to install. Will the engine be a direct replacement with minor changes? Will chevy 350 headers fit? Will I need to get new motor mounts? Not sure what to expect. Any feedback would be appreciated

Welcome to the site.

You need Olds frame brackets and motor mounts. The headers will not work and you'll need an adaptor for the transmission or a BOP style transmission. Some wiring changes, etc...

You will need Olds headers, mounts and a bop trans or adapter plate. I have done a 78 2wd 1/2 ton and my current 94 4x4 . The Olds 350 is a much better truck motor than any SBC.

Yes, wires need lengthened since sensors are in different places.

Thanks guys, I have the trans with the engine, I will investigate motor mounts and placement onto the frame. It looks like the trans is the same length as the chevy and will fit nicely. It appears at first glance I might need to only replace the flowmaster headers I currently have.

It should be pretty easy then, good luck. If its a SWB, save your old parts as you may want to go back in the future.

The Olds motor was factory installed in the 1973-1987 family of Chevy trucks in the form of the 350 diesel. The mounts for THAT application make it a bolt-in for THAT family of truck. No such mounts exist for the 1972-earlier Chevy trucks. You'll need to fabricate or adapt everything. The Olds 350 and Chevy 350 are completely different designs with NOTHING in common, not even the bellhousing bolt pattern.

I thought the frame brackets were the same or can be modded easily.

The frame brackets for a Chevy aren't even close to those for an Olds. Anything can be modded with a torch.

Isn't there a set of engine brackets the fit the olds that allow you to use sbc mounts? I think they were from 403 firebirds.

Yes but that early of a Chevy truck does not use the clam shell mounts. It's uses the old style mount with the rubber on the motor that rip apart.

Weld the frame mounts or drill out to match. I welded mine on my 78 and used Firebird mounts on the 94.
