I just bought 71 olds cutlass has no motor or tranny. the guy I got it from bought some motor mounts from some company to bolt in a chevy 350. He said he researched it on some oldsmobile forums and everyone said to buy them. They are not wide enough for stock motor mounts that come off the block. Im going to have around a half inch of empty space on both sides and theres no rubber no nothing am I missing pieces and does anyone have any idea what im talking about any help is appreciated

 

Is there anything else that I need to know about as far as the chevy 350 turbo 350 swap? Can I just get rid of those mounts and use a stock setup will the holes for the correct mounting position be there?

Couple of suggestions for you.
1. This thread will likely get some of the other members upset because you're dropping a Chev 350 into an Olds. It's a bit of a sensitive issue for Olds guys..

2. Contact a Moderator and ask for the thread to be moved to the "Non Olds Powered' Forum instead of the 'Cutlass' one. It will help soothe some ruffled feathers.

3. The guy who sold you the car is right that the Chev 350 will not bolt up to stock Olds engine mounts. You will need to get the right engine mounts, and likely modify them to fit for clearance on the Olds cradle. Either that or simply find an Olds 350/350 combo.

4. The Chev TH350 is different than the BOP TH350 on bolt up so it's a good thing you got both the engine and trans. As far as where the trans cross brace bolts in the frame of the Cutlass, there's a lot of adjustment holes there to play with. Typically an Olds TH350 uses the front 2 holes.

 

Thanx for the info. As far as the ruffled feathers goes if I had a olds 350 sitting around that would go in it but I don't. Its still gm lets not panic they bolt up a little different have a starter on the other side

 

If you're going to be doing more work on the car (interior/suspension etc) you might be interested in picking up the 71 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual, and the 71 Cutlass Assembly Manual. Really good info to have about the car.

 

Welcome, I moved your thread to the non Olds powered area. What you need to do is treat it like a Chevelle, You need the frame brackets and motor mounts for small block Chevy and it's basically a bolt in. Same goes with headers use a set for a small block Chevelle. The trans mount and drive shaft is the same for T350. You will need all your accy brackets for the SBC and you'll have a few minor wiring mods for starter and possibly the alternator.

The installation is quite simple as I have a BBC in my Olds.
