I have a 70 cs with the 350 and 2 barrel carb, stock motor. Got a friend that has a Holley 550 double pumper. Question is any idea if the carb will work and if so what intake would be a good choice I don't want anything to aggressive would like to keep power in the lower to mid rpms.

 

Edelbrock Performer Intake, I ran a 570 with my stockish 350 so I think 550 should be fine.

 

If you are not doing anything to the moter you could just grab a old cast iron intake. Some one near you might have one cheap. Post your location.

Then I wouldn't use a double pumper on a small block unless you have a high numerical gear and a 4 speed.

I don't believe they ever made a 550 DP so first you might want to find out what your friend really has.

Several things.

First, I also don't think there is such a thing as a "550 DP" Holley.

Second, a 550 is small for your 350. I'd use a 650.

Third, unless this carb is the Holley spreadbore (in which case it is NOT a 550), it will not bolt to a stock Olds iron intake without an adapter. The spreadbore to square bore adapter can introduce flow disruptions that negate some of the performance improvement. Just get an intake that matches your carb.

Finally, I would not suggest a DP carb for an otherwise stock engine. Your best bet is to get a properly calibrated Qjet. Your second best bet would be an E-brock. A vacuum secondary Holley would be next, and a double pumper would be my last choice. Just because you can get something from a friend DOESN'T make it the smart choice for your car.

 

I just did this about 3 months ago. I bought EDL-2711 and EDL-1806. The 1806 is a 650 cfm. It really livened that motor up. I was in the same situation with a stock motor with a 2 bbl. The previous owner had already done headers and exhaust so I had a good start. I wouldnt change what I did and am VERY happy with the results. I would recommend it to anyone.
