Camshaft help

I’m struggling to identify a camshaft that came in my 330 when i bought it. I immediately replaced it with an oem one because there had been contact betwee valves and the pistons but i can’t find too much info on the cam and would like to know if there is any value in keeping it.

Old cam that came with the engine 229H10, T5827

Current oem cam specs according to our parts store

Are the specs displayed for the new (replacement) cam or the one that was in there when you got the 330? The specs shown are for a Comp Cams X-treme Energy cam and look to be good for a mild performance/RV type build.

That original cam is a Comp 292. That’s a LOT of cam for a 330.

COMP Cams Magnum 292H

.518 / .518 lift
292 / 292 advertised duration
244 / 244 duration @ .050 lift

the previous owner sold me a damn time bomb marketed as a rebuilt performance engine. Thank you for the clarification. They made no effort to tune the rest of the car or engine for that much cam, every piston had connected with the valves and one of them were burmt straight through after the first startup. They even forgot the oiling plug for the dist and claimed to be professional engine builders.

RV is a torquey low-rev kind of cam, popular in Recreational Vehicles. It should make decent power in a mild 330 build with lots of low-end grunt.

You have something else wrong. That cam should’ve NEVER let the valves hit the pistons.

I agree with cutlassefi, that "builder" most probably did not properly degree that cam when installed!

hmm, the only thing i changed except bearings and gaskets when it didn’t contact was the cam aswell as proper timing. Everything else worked fine untill i spun a bearing when the transmission leaked. They had forgotten the oil plug for the dist but i can’t imagine that having an impact on the valve clearance
it does also have 1,6 rockers aswell so with an aggressive cam, those rockers and bad timing i would assume that did it?

Olds factory rockers are 1.6 ratio so that’s not a problem.

I agree with the others that the cam was probably not degreed properly.
