Cam bolt question

When I took my engine apart there was a flat bolt holding the top gear to the cam.
Without the proper bolt would the cam walk forward enough to tear stuff up, also the oil slinger was missing.
I ordered the right parts just for peace of mind even if it doesn't matter one way or the other.

The cam on a Olds rotates, so it pull the cam back, not forward. I still would get the right parts.
