Cam Bearings
Cam Bearings
I'm looking at a 60 percent off facebook deal in my area for a comp cams XE262H and other parts in a bundle. My 70 350 is untouched, besides a recent intake swap.
My question is, could you inspect/reuse 50 year old cam bearings? I'm not home for months at a time, so if pulling the motor/crank is necessary I'll have to sit on the parts for a while.

If you're talking about swapping cams without further dis-assembling the engine , then yes.
Be careful not to nick the bearings with the cam lobes.
I usually use a couple of bolts about 5 inches long screwed into the timing gear holes, to help guide the cam in or out.

O,
Cam bearings really do not wear that much unless they have a million miles on them. They do wear but it is not usually a big issue on most engines I have seen over the years. However, the engine pretty much has to be completely disassembled to replace them so keep that in mind. I use the same procedure that Charlie mentioned but on an Oldsmobile it is a single bolt in the middle of the cam. I have a bunch of them I have made up about a foot long.
