buick to cadillac engine swap

Hey guys,

Been hangin out at this forum for a while, just came up on a question...maybe you guys can help.

I have a 1980 eldorado that came with an 368 bb cad engine. I want to put in an olds 350...which i have the engine.

I recently purchased a engine mounting bracket from an olds rivi (83-84). this mount was from an olds 307 equipped rivi.

the mount should be interchangeable to the eldorado since they share the same body style/frame. for some reason mine is not aligning up to my front crossmember. the angle is off.and since the 307 and 350 are the same block it should bolt directly.

the bracket is a one piece u-shaped bracket that bolts to the engine block and rests on the motor mounts.

the way the bracket mounts to the engine block it makes it sit at a different angle than the motor mounts are sitting. Any idea of whats wrong?

It is difficult to visualize your problem. Could you post pictures? The 307 and the 350 are both SBO engines. You shouldn't have any troubles swapping accessories from one to the other. Are you sure you identified the engines correctly?

A picture would certainly help. I'm familiar with the bracket, but is it possible that you have it on backwards? The only other possible issue is that the Anchor motor mount listing shows the P/N 2629 motor mounts as fitting the 1980-85 Buick Riviera and Olds Toronado, but only the 1981-85 Eldo and Seville. The Olds 350 gas and diesel motors were used in the 1980 Eldo, but I cannot find a motor mount listing for these. It's possible that the 1980 Eldo and the 1983 Riv subframes are not identical. It's also possible that using the Anchor #2629 mounts will solve your problem.

The other bracket appears to be different with the mounting surfaces at a different angle, but it's hard to tell since the photo angles aren't quite the same as the one above. As I noted previously, the 79 Toro/Riv and 79-80 Eldo rubber motor mounts are listed as being different from the 80-85 Toro/Riv and 81-85 Eldo. Are you using the 83-84 Riv bracket with the Anchor 2629 mounts?
