Question Block number appears to be blank

I found the "What year is my engine!?!" very helpful in finding my block number. However, when I found the pad, it was blank. The place I am looking is from under the car and located under the #1 plug. There is a battery ground connection attached to the front of the boss.

Am I looking in the correct place?
Did the factory make a mistake?

Here's what you should be seeing.

A blank pad indicates a service motor. Sometimes an erroneous number is stamped into the pad depending on the dealership practices.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Ken, the pad is very clear in the photo and is what I was looking at. The block must be as you describe with no misc. stamping.
