belt squealing

belt squealing

have a 72 cutlass with 350 alternator on drivers side with ac removed. alternator belt is squealing real bad? the belt is tight, the pulleys look to be original. any ideas for a fix, thought about march pulley system? thanks

Check the power steering belt also. Follow Joe's Padavano's advice that he posts often https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...elt-loose.html and enjoy the silence. Worked for me.

Does the alternator belt go around the crank or just the water pump. If it is the latter, there is your problem.

I had a similar problem with my 307 '82 Cutlass wagon.
The alternator was driven by the water pump pulley only, the water pump was driven by both the power steering and a/c belts. Putting a belt on the (not working) a/c cured the problem.
Not GMs greatest design IMO.
