I just bought a ‘65 F-85 and the decal on the air cleaner says Jetfire. I read online that the Jetfire was only made in ‘62 and ‘63. What is the correct decal?
I’m pretty sure that decal is from a 66-67 Jetfire engine.
In 62/3 Jetfire was the turbo car and didn’t even have a standard air cleaner like yours.
(But I’m not a 62/3 guy)
I have a 65 Cutlass with the Jetfire plate also, I’ve had the car since 1980. I’ve seen the Cutlass plate also, my car is a Fremont built car, I don’t know if that has anything to do with it or not. Anything could’ve have happened in the 15 years before I owned it. Maybe they ran short of the Cutlass plate as the car was rolling down the assembly line.
Oldsmobile used the "Jetfire V8" name on 2bbl 330 engines from 1964-up (4bbl 330s were called "Cutlass V8"). Note that in the Jetstar 88, the 4bbl version was also called "Jetfire". This is unrelated to the turbo motors. On the other hand, that is not the correct pie pan for that air cleaner. The 1965 pie pan is smaller in diameter.
