ac delete on 72 olds cutlass vert

I am thinking about removing my ac on my vert and I was wondering where the blower motor is located and if it is located in the fender can I replace the box with a non ac box and is it smaller??

I believe the blower is mounted on the firewall. If you have an AC box then all you have to do is take it out along with the air plenum and install a non AC box and air plenum in its place. This is not an easy task. Good luck.

AC to Non-AC

Yes, I agree with Olds64 that swapping both the firewall box and under dash box with non-AC units is a project. You will also have to do some sheetmetal work on the firewall, or purchase an aftermarket firewall box as the AC box had a larger rectangle shaped hole cut into the firewall. If you decide to do this I would recommend removing the passenger side wheel and inner fender well, that will give you access to the box. The blower fan us up under the fender. If you want to make it look factory you'll also have to replace the dash panel and the floor kick panels and duct work. I have parts cars that are both and could provide some photos if that would help. John

The non-A/C air box is NOT a bolt-in replacement for the A/C box. There is an aftermarket fiberglass A/C delete airbox available that replaces the A/C box on the engine side of the firewall and lets you keep the original box on the dash side. This lets you keep the heater with a much smaller box on the engine side of the firewall. The A/C delete box covers all the holes in the firewall and provides mounting for the blower motor.

Thanks guys for being so prompt, I started the removal today and found the blower motor in the RF fender. THe box unfortunatley did end up breaking. If you guys have the address or site of where I can get the box let me know. I was surprised to see that the blower motor was so far away from the heater core, I take it the relocation kit will have the motor mounted a little closer to the hvac box.

You might try to reassembly your box with some 2 part epoxy. My air plenum broke when I removed it and I used 2 part epoxy to glue it back together. However, I also used C clamps to hold the box together while the epoxy cured overnight. It worked great.

Nope. That's where it lives on both the A/C and non-A/C versions. Not one of GM's better decisions from a repair standpoint.
