84 Olds Valve Covers

Ok...saw an oil leak dripping around oil filter area. The car only has 65K miles on her. Both valve covers show wetness in the rear towards the firewall. I'm assuming (and hopeful) that this is the issue. I have the 307 motor.

Last night I pulled drivers side cover, after removing half the motor to get to it. It would appear that GM only used a sealant (no gasket).

My question is, do I buy rubber or cork and do I use a sealant as well?

Thanks!!

valve cover gaskets

I would highly recommend resealing them in the same manor as they came. make sure the return holes are clear also.

Age matters, too. The car is 30 years old. Seals and sealant dry out.

I've seen decades-old cars in museums with maybe 100 miles on them dripping fluids underneath.
