78 rocket 350 help!!!
I have a 78 rocket 350 I'm going to drop in my cutlass.. I wanted to add a mild thumpr cam in fear that i have a filed out lobe on the stock cam... However I wanted to go with after marker intake and Carb, but it has egr.. how do I illiminate this?? And i need to pass Indiana emission laws
^^ Sounds like you want the best of both worlds there. Sorry, it's not going to happen.
First the EGR. If you need it then it has to be in place. Most likey a car will fail VIA a visual inspection, let alone an actual emissions test.
Second, The cam sounds like a great idea, but only if you rebuild the entire engine first. Typically, swapping a cam will lead to a spun bearing in the near future. I've heard of so many people swapping a cam and then having this problem. Besides, if you think the lobes are that far gone, why not just tear the entire thing down and rebuild?
As for doing away with an EGR totally, an Edelbrock 7111 manifold does not have a provision for an EGR. It's already blocked off for you. You can also buy block off plates for the EGR ports if you want to go that route.
What are the emission laws in IN? In the Philly area, emissions are very strict, second only to Cali. However, Classic and Antique regstered cars are exempt as well as cars 1975 and older. Also cars from 1976-1983, only require a visual inspection for emission systems. Lastly if the car is driven less than 5000 miles a year, that's exempt too. Look up the laws in your state and be mindful if there are differences from county to county

Thank.. I was just thinking I could stuff a breather in the egr valve hole ok the.valve cover... Idk much about egr.. just fear of running the horrible stock Carb.... A lot of the egr intake manifolds say it requires factory carburater...
If you've a flat cam, you've a lot of cast iron circulating through the motor, calling for a rebuild, anyway!
I've had cars that passed w/o cats, but only with the 'sniffer' test - 160 thermostat and a minor shot of E-85 added. [throws their $hit off]
You say '78 rocket 350,[?] but what year is the vehicle?

Like Rick said, if your cam is shot, it'll be time for a rebuild soon. But you could keep stock carb, but install performer intake, also swap them heads for #2-7 castings and go with the W-31 (2.000" intake and 1.625" exhaust) valves.

I got number 5 heads... And i don't even have a Carb for now... Lol purchased the motor without it... Ran the motor with it.. guy said he needed to keep it... And it kept back firing through the Carb on heavy acceleration... My mechanic said it was a bad cam..
