76 350 cam?
I have a 76 350.I am putting in my 64 cutlass convertible, 4 speed 355 rear. This is low budget, almost no budget. The motor has good compression , bearings in spec. I am installing a new timing chain and valve stems seals An ol4b I have, rebuilt q jet and a set of headers. Is there a cam that can make this 8.5 compression slug come alive? I will spend the $ 250 or so if i can wake it up Thanks

Whatever you do don’t use any of the generic stuff, you’ll be disappointed.
The cam I did for Christian (olds 307 and 403) would a good fit for yours as well Next thing I would do is put earlier heads on it as well.

I will not use a generic. I probably wont change the heads either. I have not had the car on the road since 84. I want to drive it in the spring. I have another 350 block and mildly ported c heads that is going to get one of your stoker cranks, but wont be able to do that for a few years,. . Will contact you Copper thanks for your answer . Those ETs make the cam expense, in a intermittent motor worthwhile. Jim

I ran 9.9 in the 1/8 with the ignition breaking up on the top end, equal to mid 15's. I probably could have hit 15's flat. It was a 76 350 with the Edelbrock Performer cam advanced 2 degrees, 2300 stall with a 2004R and 3.42 gears in a 3750 pound 88 Cutlass. The 214/214 .472/.472 110 LSA cam worked better that Cutlassefi did for me. Either one needed more than factory stall so you will need to dump the clutch a bit. You will actually be right around 8 to 1 compression if it still has shim head gaskets, mid 7's if Felpro's were used. I put #6 heads milled to 55cc and ported with 2"/1.625" valves. It ran 1/2 a second quicker in the 1/8 or mid 14's in the 1/4. The 9.6 to 1 with crappy quench sucked on the street, dialed back timing or pinging. The Qjet needed the idle circuits, ran horrible without it. I swapped on 62 to 64cc #6 heads with 2.05" intake valves and just the bowls opened up, otherwise completely rebuilt. Both sets were machined for positive seals, a nice upgrade. I also bought the last two .028" Rocket Racing head gaskets which put me right at 9 to 1 compression, along with swapping the Performer cam for Cutlassefi's 214/214 cam above. With Cutlassefi's custom cam, 2300 stall, 2004R and 2.78 gears in my 70S, it would lay rubber for a 1/4 block. My daughter ran the trans low the day before the track and it currently has a 1600 stall TH350, it sucks off the line, nice up top. The better valve springs, more compression along with better flowing heads make the top end stronger. I also used the Performer with a 1" open spacer and the Performer RPM intake as well. Both shead a lot of weight and the RPM does what is says. I also used shorty headers and 2.5" X pipe exhaust, it makes a difference also. I had this on my 88 Cutlass with a stock 260, made a very noticeable difference over the current stock manifolds and 1 7/8" dual exhaust. I thought it would be too big for a 260, it improved power everywhere, I am putting it back on the 88, sounded amazing on it, loud on my 70. I know full length headers are expensive, the Thornton direct replacement shorties should work for your car, add at least 2.25" dual exhaust even with manifold's, a block off cap is available for the extra port. Also degree the cam, it makes sure everything is made as it should be, quite often one or both are off. I hope my rambling helps.

My car is pretty light when it ran 13.9's it was appx. 3600 lbs and i had no power steering a/C . just a bare bones street car. I did run earlier heads to get the compression around 9 to 1 just a tick under that. There was also a th400 behind it which eats up about 25 up over a th350. It eventually went 13.86 with an x pipe added . on a fully dressed car probably mid 14's low 15's for my combo .

HEI doesn't fit behind the OL4B does it? Can't remember. I don't think it does with the big blocks... My neighbor is selling a Lunati 225/225 .512" lift with lifters, new of course, if you're interested.
