70 vs.72 Harmonic balancer

I have been having timing issues on my 71 Cutlass and my 70 Vista Cruiser, both 350's, so I checked both harmonic balancers to see if they had slipped or spun. I used a screwdriver in the #1 spark plug hole. The 71 was just about perfect but the 70 I think has slipped, which explains why it spark knocks something terrible when set anywhere near where it's supposed to be. So I went out to my 72 Cutlass parts car and removed the balancer from it and put it on the bench and after cleaning off the crud I can see the marks that are on the hub and the weight are exact so I can tell it hasn't slipped. I also removed the dist cap on the Vista, and found I have about 10 degrees movement in my timing chain so I defiantly need to replace the chain. My question is can I use the balancer off the 72 on the 70? The 71 and 72 are thicker than the one on the 70. Thanks for your advice, Greg.
