'70 455 Mondello Intake and Valley Pan

Hello,
If anyone is interested in seeing Mondello's anti-splash, heat block off plates and intake gaskets,
please see pictures below.

I have been running this setup for three years now (2500 miles). Great set up! Don't use the front and rear gaskets.

A bead of RTV black front and back surfaces then soooo important another bead in all 4 corners.

are the crossover blockoffs part of the gasket ?

the old turkey tray looks pretty new

I saw ILT offered a stainless piece to use for a crossover block off where you triim the turkey tray to allow the stainless piece to go in its place....seemed like a solution ripe for problems !!!

The block off plates are made from stainless about 2" wide x 3" long, with and indent stampedinto it that fits perfectly in the port. They give you (2) sizes depending on your port size (it's obovious which one to use ). Then the gasket's are placed over them. Plates are about .o4 in thickness. You can barley see them once installed.
Also the gasket's they use are the "marine grade" you can get them from Fel-Pro.
The plates .....they just started advertising them. I had to ask about them when I did my intake 3 yrs ago.

DRXOLDS- How are the exhaust cross-over block offs holding up?

I installed a set with Mr.Gasket #404 gaskets a couple off weekends ago. It doesn't seem that the gaskets compressed enough for the plates to be under the gaskets. I went for a cruise a week ago and it started with a bit of oil burn smoke from the exhaust and 8 oil fouled plugs. I called Mondello and they recommended the gaskets you used, but there was no mention on the website that there is a special gasket set that should be used. When you installed these, did you use any sealer around the intake ports and coolant passages? There seems to be some preapplied/embedded silicone on the gaskets already.
I don't wanna do this job again so any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Ken

Hello,
Give me a call and I will explain the process. Yes, I did it twice also....
But now 4 + yrs and about 4500 miles and no paint burning (off intake) as of yet.... the set-up works.
But you need to know how to do it right. (Like me the second time !).

Anytime after 6-7 central time. If I am not here, I will call back. Do overs suck...but this set-up does work. Start by looking at Fel-Pro #1356 intake gaskets. That is what I went with they are .06" thick. More to the story but that is a start. They are marine grade "blue" gasket (around ports) material. Also my turkey baster is gone... went with Mondello's splash kit....works great don't know if that is available for you.
I have a stock '70 455 with A/C..
Call, I fill you in the best I can. Four yrs. and 4K miles and intake looks new yet...

Why is anyone calling Mondello's? Those are SCE gaskets and yes, use sealer around the water ports on both sides of the gaskets.
