Need some help. A local guy here has a 350 from a 79 cutlass. 60 over, what do you think about this? Rebuilt about 5 yrs ago. Has it for sale for 800, just needs to be put together. He does not really know much about it.

That looks like a low compression, cast piston build. It does have the upgraded double roller timing set on it. What do the pistons have stamped on them? The 3A heads flow terrible and are crack prone. Plus that is a later windowed main block. It is worth a few hundred as is, offer him $500.

You have long block that was rebuilt by someone else. Is it a 1970 or a 1979 ? If its .060" over, how come there are .040" pistons in it. Do you know that you have all the parts needed ? Do you know that you have all the bolts needed ? Where are the gaskets you need ? Who will finish assembling all the pieces ?
I wouldn't give what he wants, especially when its still a basket case. I would say its worth about 1/2 what he is asking.

Yeah, those are probably a 24cc dish cast piston. Bring a digital caliper and measure how much the pistons are below deck, probably quite a bit. I could have got a pair of the later 350's for $100 each, I passed on them.

Oldster, 79, I couldn't change it from 70, yes I looked at the pic and saw it was 40. Like I said, he doesn't know much about it, plus I am still learning as well. There is another pic that I did not post with a box of all parts

My gut instinct is pass.

Its definitely a late 70s block, which are the last 350s you want to build up.

Yes, those are the HUGE 24cc dish pistons, and they are short on compression height as well (1.596").

Windowed mains, soup bowl pistons, and 3A heads with crappy ports. Not my first choice.

Don’t forget, a regular cast crank as well.

Good eye on the roller tip rocker arms. It probably has an upgraded cam. It could be honed to fit the 10cc Mahle dish forged pistons for around 9 to 1, if the block is fresh enough. Again more money in the least desirable 350.

That engine is not "rebuilt". From the pictures provided the best I can tell is replacement pistons were installed. Deck appears to have been cleaned up with an abrasive, ditto with intake side of cylinder heads. Can not tell if heads were milled, valves appear to have reused. Missing rod nut? On a "rebuild"? My opinion; this is a bucket of parts, I would pass.
