69 350 build

Been sitting around since Dec 7 from shoulder surgery and I'm bored so I decided to kill a few minutes and post some pictures.
This engine started out as a 69 350, the block was bored .030, align bored, decked to zero and squared, the crank was like new so it was just polished, the heads have all new stainless valves, hardened seats, new springs and where pocket ported and gasket matched, the rods where resized, ARP bolts added, and the assembly rebalanced, shallow 10.25 EGGE pistons where used.

The valve train was replaced with new parts, the Edelbrock intake was off a mile from matching the heads, double roller chain and a small .474 lift cam.

I used a Holley 600 on the intake, rebuilt a stock HEI with a Pertronics kit, used MSD 8.5 wires, replaced the water pump, starter and fuel pump and I'm using my Thornton exhaust manifolds with a full 2.5 exhaust system with an H pipe. The transmission is a 200R4 that was completely rebuilt using a large variety of after market parts and a small 1800-2000 stall converter.
I have already rebuilt the rear end with a 3:90 gear and a new posi unit.

I was looking for a solid 300HP that would get close to 20 MPG and I think it will be close.

I didn't built this engine to be a racer but I bet it will be pretty snappy, I look forward to using it on vacation trips around the NW.

Know if my arm would get better maybe I could get the damned thing started, been looking at it all put together for since Dec 6.

Nice work.
Are those the Thornton JR exhaust manifolds? I read about them and was looking for opinions. How did they look, fit, etc? Are both sides 2 1/4" outlet?

That would be bright red not Chebby orange, I just couldn't bring myself to paint this engine that nasty gold color.

Yes they are, I like them, they fit perfect and do allow a 2 1/4 on DS and a 2 1/2 on the PS.

Jag you and my dad have the same mentality. Not a bad thing lol i gave him my old olds 350 not so old only 5k on it for his 77 pontiac bonneville originally olds 403 first thing he did was paint it chevy orange. he said "i used to have a 283 in my impala it was orange i always liked it" . I do like the red better than orange looking good hope you can get her running soon.
