Well here we go again, I’M super frustrated. Found out that Camshaft bank angle is 39 degree or 45 degree, got it. But info is almost even for which one it is for a 67. Super cars states a 396192 cam spec is 39 deg (sorry joe). Other threads I followed state 45 degree. Engine is at the shop, need to make the decision this week.
Question- who out there has replaced their camshaft, what did you guys use, was 39 or 45 deg cam discussed when ordered?

1967 was the year Oldsmobile abandoned the 45 degree lifter angle; all 1967 blocks were 39 degree. If you are sure that the block has never been replaced and is truly a 1967 330, it is 39 degree. If not sure, get a protractor and measure it. What is the manufacture date of your car as noted on the vehicle data plate? I shall cover my but and state that if it was an early 1967 manufacture maybe it is "possible" that a 1966 motor found its way in there. The only way to be absolutely sure is to take off the intake manifold and check the lifter bank angle with your protractor.

 

The only way to know for sure is to look at the block. Here's a quick and dirty comparison.




A more accurate way is to actually measure the angle of the lifter bore in relation to the deck. 442BRO has a really good description of this process on that website.




I've also used the Mondello tool that goes in the lifter bore. That makes it really obvious if the lifter is parallel to the cylinder or not.

 

I came across this but can't swear its true....if the block number located by the oil fill tube reads 394417-39 degree and 381917 is a 45 degree cam bank angle.

 

I would just measure it. Use two pieces of pvc water pipe, with tape wrapped around them as needed for a snug fit in the liter bore and coming straight out of it. If the included angle is 90 degrees (use a piece of paper to get a 90 degree angle), you have the 45 degree block. If the pvc pipes are closer together at the top of the block, you have the 39 degree (x2=78 deg).

 

The PVC pipe is an excellent idea! It's pretty obvious which one is the 45 degree block.
