64 Cutlass 330 4v engine rear seal

Hi, did the 64 330 motor have a rope rear seal? (engine is original never touched since bought in 64)
Now since I'm changing out the oil pan without pulling the engine (have more than enough room)
Figured I might as well replace Rear Seal wondering do they make a Neoprene Seal for a 64 330 ? Instead of a rope
Thanks

Yes, the AMC 4.2 seal with the ears cut off and a Ford 292 rear main. The AMC seal fits tighter. Getting the old rope seal out can be a challenge.

Yes it was a rope seal. If it is really dry consider leaving it alone. If you didn't already do so, having the oil pan off makes replacing the timing chain easier. Look deep inside the oil screen pickup for debris while the pan is off.

Agree 100% Replacing the rope seal is almost impossible to do properly with the engine still in the car. Especially if it really is the original 60 year old seal.
