55 Olds 324 dual point gap

Hi all, anyone know what the gap and timing is on a 324 with dual point distributor, Thanks

Nope, now your a mechanic also. If it's a Mallory there is usually a plate or a stamp on the side that tells the specs for setting.

The original distributor required a 0.016" breaker point gap (cam angle of 26-33 degrees), but it was a single point distributor. It sounds like someone did a modification to a dual points beaker plate. Look on the breaker plate itself. It may show the required gap.

Try .022 gap with a single point dwell of 26 and combined dwell of 33.

When I was running a dual point dist. I would block the secondary set of points with a piece of popsicle stick and set the gap on the primary points. Run the engine and see if it missfires. Then block the primary set and set the gap on the secondary set. The engine will run on only one set of points while the other is being set. Then check the dwell. It should be on spec.
