There are a number of different bracket styles for the small block Olds, so the first question is, what do you need? First is the A/C vs. non-A/C bracket configurations. Next, the 403 Trans Am used unique brackets unlike those on any other SBO. Finally, for other SBOs, there are the 1964-67 brackets, the 1968-81 brackets, and post-1981 style brackets. Any SBO brackets will bolt to your 403, but where do you need the accessories located?

Olds 403 with Olds 350 heads coolant holes

Hello everyone I have a 403 engine with 350 heads on it, it runs good but it gets hot when I run it slow on cruse nite, I have seen somewhere that you need to drill 4 extra coolant holes in the 350 heads does anyone know anything about this item, I will be changing out the head gaskets this weekend and could use some help if anyone is out there...
Thank you for any help on this

I think I answerd you question in another thread..... you do not need to drill you head gaskets.

If your car is overheating...the first thing to check, Is the radiator plugged up? Is the fan and shroud working as installed? Third is the water pump working correctly?

Olds 403 with Olds 350 heads coolant holes

I had the cooling system flushed and radiator was serviced, water pump is new with 4k miles , new 6 blade flex fan, 3 core radiator , 50/50 coolant I welded in a restrict or plate/ washer in the line that bypasses the thermostat. that helped but still warm at slow speeds@220+. I found the tid bit about the holes in the head on Olds FQA site but they were not clear on were to drill. I have an old set of 403 heads I will look at them when I get the 350 heads off, perhaps that will take care of this matter.
Thank you very much for the feed back. Ernie

your last text makes sense about not drilling the gasket. Im sure I put a 403 head gasket the last time and didn't see any extra coolant holes. the bolt holes for a 350 are smaller than smog heads. I had to have the heads drilled out for 1/2" bolts. perhaps brand name I used fel pro.
