371 dies when shifting and accelerating

Hey,
I have some issues with my 371. Everytime I stomp on the gas pedal, the engine stops running, and when I release the pedal it starts running again. Its like the engine is taking a pause or something. If I hold down the pedal to long, the engine dies. Idk if it has something to do with the vacuum advance or something??

Same thing when the transmission is shifting, you can here this vacuum kind of noice before it slams into the next gear, and sometimes the engine just dies after it has shifted.

Its really frustrating because you have to be extremely gentle to the pedal all the time. You can rev up the engine though, if you do it slowly.

Any Help? Thanks.

I would suspect a fuel delivery problem, bad fuel filter, weak, pump, restricted line, carb float set too low, partial blockage in carb jets or even a carb accelerator pump .issue. Also check your timing.

I found the error.

The cable between the ignition coil and the distributor had jumped off and only touched the terminal, and lost connection when the vacuum advance kicked in. I replaced it and it runs better than ever.

Well maybe that's it but the symptoms as you described it sure sounded like a bad accelerator pump and common problem if it has not been changed to the new ethanol resistant material.... Tedd
