Unhappy Accelerator Pedal keeps falling off.

Just wondering if anyone has ever replaced the factory accelerator pedal on a full sized car with something else?

The two small studs that come out of the floor are rusted pretty good so they may now be a bit to small. The part on the pedal assembly that they pop into is also cracked.

So now unless I am extremely carful while driving my accelerator pedal falls off and I am left with pushing on the actual linkage with my foot. It is becoming very tiresome.

Talking

Get an old right foot shoe and glue the pedal to the sole.

Problem solved.

I doubt the ball studs have eroded away that much. It's more likely the crack in the pedal. Same thing happened to me on my 66 Cutlass. I purchased a pedal and two studs from The Parts Place. I didn't even use the studs as they were fine and the pedal looks and works great. I'm not sure how a Cutlass pedal and a 98 compare but it's worth taking a look.

Hmmm... Apparently I can find 66 Cutlass accelerator pedals all day long. Does anyone else know if they are the same as the pedals in the full sized cars?

Craig, the Cutlass pedal is about 2/3 the size of a full size pedal. Someone else had this problem and I was going to try and dig out some pedals I've pulled over the years that I though were still good. If I find more than one you can have the second best as the other member asked first. John

My 59 88 did this to me. I put some epoxy on the ball and it worked. Made the ball a littel bigger so did not come off. Tinman

Gas Pedal

Hi Craig,

I still have a nice one you can have if you're still in need. The holes that fit over the floor mounting studs are 100% perfect and the face of the pedal is almost in "as new" condition.

Craig, I've only come up with two that have cracks around the ball stud holes. I hope the one from hardtop/ragtop works for you. John

I hear that... it's tough accelerating smoothly without the pedal. Last time I knocked mine off I was on a steep hill in SF, in stop and go traffic... not fun! I recently picked up a used pedal from a member here. It's nice not to have to deal with that anymore. Good luck, hope you find one, too.

Many thanks to Hardtop/Ragtop. He sent me a beautiful pedal. Great person to deal with.

Have you considered a Toyota pedal, I hear they made to last.
