350 v8

I want to get more power from my 350 rocket, I already put the edelbrock intake manifold and added a 4 bbl carburetor. I want to change the camshaft and timing chain plus add lifters. I don't know much about cars. I am not sure which camshaft to get I think the camshaft has something to do with the rear gears?, can anyone help?

Also is there is anything else that can be done to the engine that will add more power.

First thing you should do is buy a service manual, and maybe some other books too. This isn't meant as a puit down, because everyone on this site started out not knowing much. It is always a learning process. Before you start tmaking changes to an engine, you need to know whay you are doing, or pay someone else for their expertise. Just changing parts because they sound good might make the car run worse...and that is assuming you make the changes correctly. Everything you change will also effect other parts and how they will work. If there is a club in your area, join it and learn.

IMO, compression is the most important factor when choosing a cam. If you have an older 350 that came with a 2 bbl, chances are Cr is in the low 9.xx to 1 range. A cam in the .470 lift and 210 duration @ .050 on the intake should work well. More gear and conveter will let you use a bigger cam. Build for torque and throttle response, tune it well, and it should be fun to drive. Also, degree the cam, it can make a HUGE difference in how the car runs.

just a question ,what condition is the engine in ?,should you be looking at a rebuild before
putting a whole bunch of speed parts into it , I think that I would be checking the compression of all the cylinders before I spent my money ,because a tired engine won't
perform any better with go fast goodies ,IMHO

350 Rocket rebuild

Trying to help my dad get his '71 cutlass convert running and have discovered a few issues. Have decided to have the motor and trans rebuilt. Any recommendations for a rebuild in the Chicagoland area? Or anyone have anything rebuilt and ready to go?
Looking to get it back to daily street driving- nothing crazy. Thanks.

Probably, but just a tad more duration than I like. Do you know what gear ratio you have?
