350 olds build

Can I get some honest opinons on these specs. It’s a potential buy but there’s too much math for me figure out compression ratio and a little guess work . To my knowledge the block hasn’t been milled down . I’m going to look at the car it’s in tonight . Thank you

checked the car out tonight looked and ran nice had a touch of valve train noise and a skip at idle nothing to write home about . After doing some ciphering on my own this engine must be around 10.5 :1 compression if we assume the .060 off the g a heads brings it to roughly a 65cc head (correct me if im wrong)still on the fence about buying it.

Piston dish can be looked up from part #, the only thing I see missing is deck clearance, without it you’re still guessing at CR.

Any chance of doing a compression test before purchase?

My guess it about 9.8 to 1. Take 10cc off of a 82cc chamber for 72cc, going by the .006" per CC. I say about .050" piston to deck with a .028" head gasket and the Speedpro flat top forged .020" or so below deck. It should run pretty decent with the right converter and gear.

He did tell me it had a 3200 stall and 342 gears. And to his knowledge the block wasn’t decked most of what I’ve read so far with that flat top piston it sets about .025 in the hole.

Valve train noise and a skip at idle is something to right home about. Because you do not know what the cause is it should be assumed costly internal engine repair. If you think or the seller claims he doesn't know the cause(s) you're fooling yourself. I would not get involved in some one else's headache with out a major price concession or better yet just walk away. CO friends don't let friends buy expensive headaches!

you have a good point I certainly don’t need and expensive headache . This engine may have been well thought out in the beginning but is now starting to show it’s age . It would be nice if I could talk to the previous owner about the build . The car itself is pretty nice but not nice enough if it needs engine work . Thanks to all for the replies I’m going to sit on this one a while

3200 stall is a lot, have you driven a car with that stall? I had a 3000 stall in a 600hp Chevelle and hated it. It will be great at launch but otherwise it wont be much fun. Having all the specs for the engine is pretty cool, most people that buy a car with a rebuilt engine have no idea what they are getting.

Doesn't that depend upon the converter? I have read that a "tight" converter will drive like normal under light throttle, but will go the stall RPM with torque applied (wide open throttle). Seems the high stall budget converters have a lot of slip during regular driving, similar to what you posted, but the high end converters don't.

I agree. My tight 3800 stall is more than drivable on the street. It's not a cheap converter though.

My FTI convertor was not cheap but I just didnt like it as a daily driver. I fixed it by installing a Tremec TKX.

not sure was on Facebook marketplace he has a motor for the car though. Sounds like he’s trying to recoup some of his money . Not ever sure what he paid for it in the beginning .
