350/Edelbrock Owners - Chime in.
Since I may not be able to sell my 73 88 as I'd like, what I would like to hear is any info/story, good OR bad, with going from a 2bbl to a 4bbl carb/intake setup.
Just for reference: I'm looking for install issues (again, Good OR Bad) and how well your Olds performed afterwards, good or bad.
Also, for reference, what type of exhaust you have (stock manifolds-single outlet and dual or headers/duals).
Thanks to any and all!!
Paul
P.S. I have searched and found MANY a thread about the Edelbrock/Quadrajet discussion, just so you know

I don't have a similar car so can't give you exact reference but I had an interesting case years ago. I had the 400 out of my 67 442 while I rebuilt it and had put a 350 2 barrel in the car during that time. I found I got poorer gas mileage with the 350 2 barrel than with the 400 4 barrel. In fact I ran out of gas on a highway trip that I did all the time with the 400 on a tank of gas but came up short with the 350. I drove it at the same speed.
Your car is heavy and your engine is rated at 160 hp on 8.5 to 1 compression. It will never be a performance car with those numbers.
With that said I believe you will notice an improvement with anything you do to improve flow but in this case it might be too small to be worth the cost involved.
What are you looking for with this car?

I have the exact setup you're talking about.
Bone stock 1972 350 Rocket
1) Performer intake manifold
2) Performer series 1405 manual choke 600 CFM carb.
3) HEI Ignition out of a 1975 oldsmobile
The car went from 2bbl Not running when i got it to now 4bbl edelbrock carb/intake setup.
I had to put a 1'' riser on my carburetor because i wanted to use my STOCK 4bbl q-jet air cleaner. She fits great. That's the only modification i had to make. Also you will need to cobble together a throttle cable holder.
at 8.5:1 compression, my cutlass roasts tires.
Many other people will reccomend a Q-Jet from your model year, but what i wanted was something i could take out of the box with no issues. Carb has been running strong for a year now.

A properly set up Q-Jet will give you much better gas mileage. This has been well documented.

I do think that the 350 in question would perform a lot better with a better cam and the Edelbrock and 4 barrell.

My Cutlass was 2bbl 350 .
I put Edelbrock performer cam and 4bbl intake on it when I had the broken valve springs replaced and the heads freshened up . I also installed long headers and Magna Flow exhaust . I used stock distributor with Accel points eliminator , and MSD 6A .
I started with a Q-jet , but after repairing several of them , I gave up and threw a Holly 680cfm Avenger at it and now we're both happier .
I couldn't tell you how much better it runs than stock , because it has run with a miss (broken springs ) since before I could drive .
My machinist says that going any bigger on the cam than the performer , would require more machine work than the stock heads are worth . ( they can't handle the lift )
I runs fantastic now , and does get better milage , nice and torquey .

Well, from what I can tell is this: My gas tank is 26 gallons. I drive a total of approx 30-35 miles a day, mostly city. I use a half of a quarter of a tank of gas everyday. 26 gallons divided by 4 (quarter tank) equals 6.5 gallons/quarter tank. A quarter tank divided by 2 equals 3.25 gallons. So, using the highest mileage of 35/day equals 10 something MPG.
If I can increase this to at least 15 mpg I'd be VERY happy.
Thoughts?
