350 camshaft

They where not s/s they ran in different stock classes F/S ect etc but I don't think they shared the same of the rules the s/s guys did. There is some guys in the "pure stock" classes and on bias ply's I think a 68 ram rod ran 13.0's . I asked this question years ago but im still curious as to what guys did back in the day running the stock classes with he w31's .

You can get 350hp out of a 350 as mentioned, and by the way the factory did it.
My point was, in answer to the op, that he wasn't going to make 350hp and over 400tq as desired with his combination. That being a stock intake, his current heads, the cam recommended by gearman and stock exhaust manifolds. I think that would be stretch at the very least.

Just to clarify, I do not think that getting 350 HP out of a 350 Olds is difficult, that is only 1 HP per CI. My last 355 probably made that (ported heads, 10.25 to 1, 227/233 cam) but since I never ran or dyno'd it, cant say for sure. But making 350 HP using today's fuel and keeping decent manners and fun to drive is a bit more challenging.

Too bad all that info was lost in one of the forum crashes.

One of the Dave's on ROP (Hilea maybe?) once posted that his W-31 dynoed 360 hp @ 6500 and was still increasing, but they didn't get readings above that for some reason I can't remember. He said the factory rating of 325 hp @ 5400 RPM was correct but the engine kept making power well beyond that.

If you mean exhaust manifolds, then likely no. I remember him posting that Olds didn't bother with a unique exhaust manifold for the W-31 as the intended engine application was (open?) headers for drag racing and the engines were set up for that, and Olds expected the factory manifolds would get tossed in the trash.

OP is a Twit
Personally I think both GEARMAN69 & cutlassefi are correct in there suggestions. I also think the real twit is the OP, he supplied no real worth while information other than 69 F85 with a 350. With all the information that is available here and on the internet, he can't even help himself. Not to mention that if he was really sincere he would have contacted a cam manufacturer to get his answer. The OP is so lazy he thinks that swapping a cam into an engine he knows nothing about will some how magically give him 350hp and 400tq. These are the type of guys that when they ask you a question like that, you tell them to put a stock big block in it and they will get everything they want. You can have Hp or gas mileage, pick one and only one. If they want to keep their motor and are really sincere about modifing their engine, you tell them to get their heads flowed and then come back, lots don't come back.
As for all the numbers I've seen being tossed around here, to me they are all subjective and provide for no real baseline to help this twit out. He could have at least opened his hood and told us what heads he had on his motor. Who knows, maybe after all these years maybe someone stuck a 307 in his car. Guys put yourselves in the shoes of a cam tech on the phone trying to help this guy, did he supply you with enough information too even give an educated answer?
Oh GEARMAN69 welcome to the calmer and friendlier Olds website, as compared to ROP. I’m sort of in the same shoes as you, I have a 74 Pontiac Ventura with a 455 Olds. Time wise rebuilding or building engine on the side I have done mostly BBOs. I have also worked on small engines to 3,000hp locomotives and everything in between. As for racing, the last 19 years have mostly been working on 800-2,000hp BBCs in the Top-Sportsman classes, but I have also worked on Chrysler, Ford, Pontiac, and imports for extra cash. Now that I’m semi-retired it’s nice to finally get back to my own Olds.
Cheers

Remember that 84 Delta I did a motor for years ago (2007?), and I posted the build on ROP, and it became an epic bashfest? That had stock #4 heads, small valves, no porting. 10.3:1 compression, in a 355......the car was full dress which was probably 3700-3800lbs. I went 12.74 @ 103mph in it. That's not 350hp, but pretty damn close.
Anyways, that car sat in a garage all this time.....up until a few days ago. It's now at my shop. I bought it for a friend (he owes me for it).
The car is gutted now so it obviously went on a diet. Anyways, knowing what I know now......I wanna see some 12.3x timeslips from it with the engine in its current state.
The car is very streetable.

Anyways, power is in the combination, and how well all of it works together. Have a starting point, and (hating this term) "upgrade" from there.
I feel that you must have a fresh set of good heads and a good working air pump below them before many other upgrades, and too many (maybe I am assuming the OP also) just want to cam it up for power increase. The cam will come, but one must ascertain what they have before they start ordering parts.
The results usually put everyone's ego's in check.
