324 Olds pully timing Notch

I am helping a friend straighten out a number on issues on a 56 Olds 98 he bought sight unseen on the internet. I read in the manual and it describes a
notch approx 1/4" long on the engine side of the pulley. I have rotated the pulley by hand 360 degrees several times and have not found this notch. The pointer is on the block so what am I missing here.

Thanks in advance.

Pat

The notch could be full of crud or very skillfully disguised...

I cleaned the pulley so it sparkles. I am beginning to think it might be an aftermarket replacement and will have to bring #1 to top dead center and make my own make and use a degree timing light to time
