307 water pump leak problem question
307 water pump leak problem question
Hello, i have found that place the water leak a little outside the waterpump,is right back the wheel of the fan, does any know if it`s a bearing behind the waterpump wheel? cause in this winter i have some frost inside cause to low antifreeze water % :/ , maybe it have damage something, i look under the car today, i tought it was the sealing was bad but i found it leak out from behind the fan wheel, can i fix it or must i have a new waterpump if any know?
And another question, is there diffrent types of waterpump? i look at ebay and i see 2 diffrent types, i can`t remember mine waterpump look the same..
i think maybe i have this type.. and the pic under is my pump, bad pic i found.

It's an internal seal you can't see. You can't do anything to it except replace the pump. That little hole on the underside is there to give you a warning that the seal is leaking and it's time to replace it.
Ah i see, thanks for the tip, i found this site to help me more to find the correct pumplenght too, i see it comes in diffrent high/size, will try to find the same casting nr on my pump

Yes, if the pump is leaking behind the pulley then it must be rebuilt/ replaced.
It looks like your WP has a "4" on the right hand outlet boss- if so, that would be by far the most common unit, 6.1" long, typically casting # 412265.
The "3" casting and other aftermarket pumps with no factory markings will also fit.
Interesting chart you showed. Quite a bit of misinformation there regarding the '68-69 water pump castings, but that should not affect your project.
What year/ model/ engine do you have?
Also, your photo shows Teflon tape used on the fuel line fitting at the pump. That joint seals with a flare, not with thread interference, so no tape should be used there. Perhaps some grease or anti-seize. It would be best to have solid steel line all the way from pump to carb also.

Finally i could see the casting nr on my pump today, and yes it was a 412265 Pump with this "4" number on it, so now i know what right part i can buy
I don`t remember what year the engine is from, i dont remember the engine number right now, but its the 307ci with 5A heads and i think 140hp, i can note down the engine nr later if it helps
Oh ok, but i have not have problem yet with the teflone tape yet, but i have another fuel filter between the pump and carburetor anyway if the tape should go loose inside or something, but thanks for the tip, i tought i would leak fuel out if i dont use tape there, but now i remember it is the same thing on brakelines too,and they not leak hehe..

The purpose of the weep hole is to let the pump leak and keep the coolant from reaching the bearing resulting in a bad failure. (could not spell catasrophic!) This happens when the weep hole hole gets plugged.
aha thats the reason the hole are there, some guy frome here i live told me one time i could plug it :S but i dont think so.. , anyway i think the bearing are a little noising too already.
