307 rear main seal leak

So today while changing my oil for the first time on my new delta 88 I noticed alot of oil all over (tranny pan oil pan) and more up front.

The top of the engine is very clean so think my valve covers are ok, when gettin my flowmaster put on and looking at the car on the lift me and the guy both saw and looked like the rear main seal was the culprit.

My question is does the 307 have a track record of this problem like a known issue? The motor only has 57k

Also how much am I looking at for a shop repair?

Thanks in advance guys!

It's not so much a problem as it is for age of the engine.

How bad is it? How much oil are you losing between oil changes?

In any situation other than restored / concours cars, or leaks that require adding oil at inconvenient intervals (and I once drove a /72 Skylark cross country that burned enough oil that I had to add a quart with every gas tank), it is easier and cheaper to just add oil occasionally, and maybe put a drip pan on your garage floor / driveway, than it is to change your rear main seal. Yes, it can be done, and the job won't kill you, but it is about a million percent easier to add a quart a month than to screw around with dropping the pan, removing the rear main cap, and fishing the old gasket out and a new one in, or removing all of the caps and the converter and dopping the crank down so you can get into the groove, all while lying on your back.

It is actually a preety slow leak it doesn't even drip oil to the ground that I've noticed...... ill check my oil level on the regular and I guess just live with it for now.

I know this is off topic but does anybody know what size the oil pan bolts are?
