rear main oil leak

Has anyone out there been successful stopping a rear main seal leak,I have a 1941 6 cylinder. If you have, please tell me how you accomplished that feat; I've replaced the rope seal several times.

Robert,

I've seen on another forum how Cadillac flathead owners have solved the problem using a Mercedes seal, getting rid of the rope.

When the engine on my 42 comes out, we plan to try this method.

Do you have a manual for your Hydramatic? Not sure if same trans used in Cadillac & Olds, at least it may be good reference:

Thanks for the info but I managed to stop mine from leaking; it took several attempts.
I read the cadillac forum and I believe that the engines that were worked on were a manual shift, if it was a hydra matic they would not be able to loosen the bearing caps to lower the crankshaft because the transmission is used as a rear support.
If you would like some info as to how stopped my oil leak contact me and I'll give you my phone number.

Why so secretive?

Even though I don't have a '41 flathead, I'd sure like to know how you did it.
