2BBL Rochester Leaking Fuel

Okay, I actually got to drive the car 2 months after I bought it. Been fixing and wrenching on a lot of things.

So, I get done with its maiden voyage (I run it pretty hard) and park it. I notice fuel leaking from the "shaft" that the throttle pivots on (at least I think that is what it is). It is dripping at a pretty good rate.

On the passenger side of the carb it is leaking at the gasket(s). I believe there is a gasket in between the carb and the spacer and another one at the spacer and the intake manifold. Not a big surprise, but it also looks like it is leaking from the same shaft but just on the opposite side.

Pictures are attached. If anyone can shed some light on this issue I would appreciate it. Does the carb need a total rebuild or just a few things replaced. The fuel leaking at the shaft is kind of throwing me off.

BTW the motor runs real well even with the leaks (not that I will keep running it that way).

Thanks for giving me some direction. I think my timing is advanced a few degrees. Would this contribute at all to the problem I am having?

I have the Pertronix III setup and have yet to put a timing light on it. Just listening to it and it seems off (high idle, etc.).

you'll need to get the air/fuel ratio situation corrected before fine tuning timing, etc.

If you have to reset the float level you might as well rebuild the entire carburetor. It would only be about $15 for a rebuild kit at your local auto parts store.

I'm on it my brother, I have the rebuild kit sitting in front of me as we speak. That was the easy part, never rebuilt the carb before. But looking at the pieces in the kit it should not be too bad.

If you are good with a wrench you won't have much trouble. Just take your time.

Got it rebuilt. It took two times. Somewhere after I adjusted the float level the first time I bumped it or something. Because after I installed the carb and ran the motor the carb flooded bigger than life (needle valve was not able to seat). But the second time around I got it to work.
