260 or 305?

Went out to look at a 77 Olds "350" for sale, but something is not right. Now I am suspicious if it is a 260 or 305.

Intake is missing as well as valve covers. Any way to ID the block?

Should be a casting # behind the water pump. Get it and someone will tell you what it is.

Castings numbers is the fastest and easiest way. Well a 305 is a Chevy engine so that is pretty easy to tell the difference. Unless you meant 307 which the first year for them is 81.

That sounds like the best plan. Next week I'll have another chance to look at it.

According to Setting the Pace, a 305 V-8 was available as an optional engine on the Omega.
