2 barrel electric choke woes

Went to the junkyard on sunday to attempt to grab a thermostat to convert my choke. I was only able to locate two carbs in the junkyard with the same choke style, and one of them was riveted on - so I was only able to obtain one choke.

Once I got it home, I realized it was definitely a smaller diameter. Not only that, but the thermostat inside was wound the opposite way which to me makes me think it wouldn't work. I searched all over the normal carb parts stores, but it seems all chokes are wound the opposite way from my factory.

This is my factory choke:

This is the choke I was able to obtain from the junkyard:

I don't want to sound like a total wiseguy, but if you pull the spring off of the center post, flip it over, and put it back on, it'll be facing the right way.

Whether it's the right spring is a different question...

I had the same thought. I tried pulling it off, and even pried on it from underneath with a flathead. I believe my carb is a 2jet.
